Nutrietns required after Lap-Band® surgery

Lap-Band® and nutrition

What are the nutrition guidelines for a person after the Lap-Band® surgery?

What is the eating methodology after the Lap-Band® surgery?

What would happen if we overeat?

If you want a healthy and fit body, then you would need to change your existing diet after the Lap-Band® surgery. You would have to make drastic changes in your every day diet if you want to lose your weight. The objective of weight loss would only be attained when you eat the food that is strictly designed for the Lap-Band® patients. If your eating habits are not changed then there are chances of slipping of the Lap-Band® attached to your stomach.

One of the important things that you need to keep in mind is that the Lap-Band® diet (food) that you are eating needs to be chewed slowly. Chew the food well until it becomes mushy. Swallowing of the food might harm the Lap-Band® . You should not eat your meal in a hurry and at least 30-45 minutes should be set apart for every meal. You should eat at a table and make it a point to chew every bite for 30 times before you swallow it. Don’t grasp the food in large quantities. Instead of that use a small spoon to eat the food. Learn to play attention to the taste. This will help you to savor the food. IF you are having dentures then it is advisable for you to eat soft food.

While consuming the food, it is important for you to remember that you should not over consume your food. You should eat that much food only as much your stomach can suffice. If you eat extra food which is not tolerable to your stomach then your stomach can stretch and you would be having a feeling of fullness. Some of the symptoms of fullness are: pain in the stomach, giddiness, pain in the upper chest or shoulder. Sometimes it might lead to vomiting as well. If the vomiting does not stop then you should consult your doctor as soon as possible. If you overeat, then your Lap-Band® would slip and again you would have to go for the Lap-Band® surgery which in turn can be really cumbersome for you.

Some of the precautions that you need to take while consuming food are:

  • Don't drink liquids soon after any meal
  • Don't lie down after the meal
  • A walk is preferable after the meal
  • Don't eat food that are difficult to digest
