In Lap-Band® surgery a small pouch like structure is created in the upper part of the stomach with a stoma. Stomas connect the pouch with the stomach which contain the food initially on being intaken and is then passed to the stomach through stoma reducing the food intake to its minimum and let the person feel fuller for long. The band can be inflated or deflated after the operation by applying saline solution on the band and this helps attain desired weight loss.
In both Lap-Band® and gastric bypass surgery a pouch is created to put a mark on the amount of food intaken. In case of gastric bypass stapling of the stomach is done to create a pouch, which is then attached to the Y-shaped portion of small intestine allowing the food to bypass the duodenum and jejunum. As a result of bypassing food from small intestine absorption of nutrients from intaken food is not done normally. Apart from that normal food intake is also not allowed so, weight loss is easily achieved.
Lap-Band® and gastric bypass both are taken in conjunction with each other as both are effective means of weight loss and done with the implementation of advanced technology. Operation in gastric bypass is bit complicated compared to Lap-Band® as the former includes multiple areas.
One of the most important difference between Lap-Band® and gastric bypass is that Lap-Band® can be reversed whereas gastric bypass can’t be reversed at all. Lap-Band® and Realize band is also for the same work-weight loss.
